The general purpose of Heart of Greece "is to bring together, under the banner of the Church, Orthodox Christians of all ages to share in the meaning of Christian fellowship, expand Orthodoxy's sphere of influence, and strengthen its effectiveness through an exchange of cultural programs ranging from Greek ethnic folk dancing, music, drama, and song."
The mission of the Heart of Greece is to perpetuate the rich history and traditions of Greek culture through folk dance and music. We achieve this by educating our members and audiences through dance performances, workshops, conferences, and lectures.
We teach and perform dances from every single region of Greece including regions of mainland Greece, the Greek Islands, Asia Minor, and Pontus while dressed in authentic Greek costumes. In addition to teaching dance steps and style, we also educate dancers on the history of the dances and the costumes worn.
We have performed in numerous cultural, civic, and private functions throughout Florida, the United States, and the Bahamas. We perform daily at our Saint Catherine Greek Orthodox Church Festival. Our performances have also been featured in numerous pieces on Channel 5 news.
The Heart of Greece is a not-for-profit organization. We do not have an annual membership fee, however, do encourage and accept donations. We welcome everyone ages 6 and up, whether experienced or inexperienced, to join our group.
